On October 6, Turkmenistan marked a mournful date – the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Ashgabat Earthquake of 1948, as well as the heroes who died on the battlefields of all wars. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the mournful ceremony of laying flowers at the monuments of the “Halk Hakydasy” Memorial Complex, TDH reports .

Commemoration of the brave defenders of the Homeland and victims of natural disasters is one of the traditions of the Turkmen people, rooted deep into the millennia and called upon to convey to the present generation the heroic path of the ancestors. The fortitude of the Turkmen spirit allowed them to overcome the hardships and losses of those harsh years, the news agency notes.

Memorial ceremonies took place on Sunday both in the capital and in all regions of the country.

Due to the fact that this year Memorial Day fell on Sunday, and also in accordance with Part 2 of Article 81 of the Labor Code of Turkmenistan, the President signed a decree on moving the day off from October 6 to October 7 - Monday. All institutions, enterprises and organizations, regardless of their form of ownership, are required to ensure compliance with this decree.

Since 1995, October 6 has been celebrated in Turkmenistan as a national day of remembrance for the victims of the Ashgabat earthquake of 1948 and the soldiers who died on the battlefield. This day is a non-working day.
