On May 31, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit, TDH reports.

The head of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that the results of the visit of the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan will give impetus to the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations.

As was noted during the meeting, long-term cooperation between Turkmenistan and Pakistan is currently successfully developing in the political and diplomatic, trade and economic, transport and energy, educational and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

As was emphasized, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the development of inter-parliamentary relations. Currently, inter-parliamentary interaction contributes to the effective development of bilateral relations and international cooperation.

Our countries support each other's international initiatives. As the head of state noted, in accordance with the Resolution of the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2025 was declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust". This decision is noteworthy because this year marks the 30th anniversary of the recognition of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality status, on the occasion of which many events are planned in our country this year. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and members of the Senate of Pakistan to take part in them.

Along with this, inter-parliamentary dialogue is an important component of interstate cooperation. Parliamentary Friendship Groups operating on a bilateral basis facilitate the exchange of experience in legislative activity and the development of parliamentary diplomacy.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed confidence that the traditional friendly relations between our countries will continue to develop in a wide range of areas in the interests of the two fraternal peoples, and exchanged best wishes.
