On August 5, the opening and first plenary session of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone under the chairmanship of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The Forum was attended by heads of state and government, high-ranking officials from more than 100 countries, about 50 international organizations, and representatives of more than 20 leading companies. More than 160 media representatives from about 40 countries gathered in Avaza to widely cover the current significant event.
Speaking at the plenary session of the Third UN Conference, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov especially noted that Turkmenistan gives priority to the environmental component in the energy segment. The text of the head of state's speech was published in the central media of our country.
"The concept of "green energy" today is a mandatory, fundamental criterion for our work in the energy sector - both within the country and in the international energy space. Here we act in strict accordance with international acts adopted within the UN framework,” the President of Turkmenistan emphasized.
“We declare that all participants in the energy triad: producers, transit countries and consumers of energy should strictly comply with international environmental criteria and agreements in the field of environmental protection and climate change,” the head of state continued.
“At the same time, our country advocates for the intensification of practical activities in the field of using renewable energy sources,” the President of Turkmenistan added.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that Turkmenistan is ready to participate in the development of hydrogen energy.
“Here we need clear joint plans and interaction algorithms. In this context, we put forward the initiative to create a Global Program for the Transition to Hydrogen Energy for the period 2030-2040. Therefore, starting next year, we propose to begin discussing the modalities of developing such a program within the UN,” the head of state said.
“In general, we proceed from the need to link all economic activities with environmental standards. The essence of our environmental policy is to "tune" the economic system in such a way that the production sector is not a rival of nature, but its ally and support. In this regard, we draw attention to the proposal put forward by Turkmenistan to form a Global Framework Program for the Transition to a Circular Economy," Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.
