Fifty-five years ago, in 1966, the industrial development of the Achak gas condensate field, located in the northern part of the Karakum Desert, started. This was the first natural gas field discovered in North-East Turkmenistan.
Geological exploration work at the Achak field began in 1964, and in February 1966, the first commercial natural gas stream was recovered from the 1st exploration well from the lower layer of limestone.
At that time, the Achak field was considered one of the largest gas fields in Central Asia. Thus, the foundation of the gas industry in our country was laid in 1966.
Over the past 55 years, the potential of Turkmenistan gas industry has increased many times over. Necessary condition for energy power to achieve high goals in the oil and gas sector is the presence of huge oil and gas reserves in the country and the discovery of new fields. As local experts have proved, Turkmenistan has huge reserves of these resources.
Thus, the super-giant gas field Galkynysh, reserves of that are estimated at more than 26.2 trillion cubic meters of gas, is the second largest gas field in the world. For several years now, this field has been successfully developed by the State Concern «Turkmengas» in close cooperation with foreign companies within the framework of service contracts signed with them.
