US launches new $39 million energy program in Central Asia

 The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), together with the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, has launched a new five-year regional energy program with a budget of $39 million USD «USAID – Central Asian Energy» in Tajikistan, the US Embassy in Tajikistan reported.

 «The program will assist the five Central Asian countries – Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – in achieving priority national energy goals, deriving economic benefits from cross-border energy trade, and improving energy security through greater regional integration»  message tells.

 It states that USAID supports national and regional energy market reforms, strengthens the regional electricity market, and promotes the wider adoption of clean energy technologies from conventional and renewable sources.

 Under the Central Asia Energy Project, USAID will work closely with local and regional partners to build the capacity of local professionals.
