Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, India and Pakistan discussed the progress of the TAPI project

 The implementation of the project for the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline was discussed on Monday in a telephone conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and his counterparts from India Subramanyam Jaishankar and Pakistan Shah Mahmud Qureishi, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

 In particular, the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and India stressed the need for the speedy implementation of the agreements reached at the highest state level in recent years, primarily during meetings and telephone conversations between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 After exchanging views on the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline project, the ministers stressed the need to intensify work at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

 In addition, the heads of the foreign ministries paid special attention to the preparations for the first Central Asia-India Summit, which will be held in the coming days via videoconference.

 In a conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, R.Meredov discussed issues of preparation for the upcoming 48th session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Islamabad on March 22-23.  The parties noted the importance of this forum for strengthening cooperation in addressing topical issues of the regional and international agenda.

 During the conversation, the need to implement the agreements reached during contacts at the highest state level during the meeting of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with President of Pakistan Arif Alvi at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held on November 28, 2021 in Ashgabat was also emphasized.

 In this context, the ministers paid special attention to the practical issues of implementing the projects of the TAPI gas pipeline and power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.
