Hungary is especially interested in the import of natural gas through the Southern Gas Corridor and considers Turkmenistan to be a promising partner in this area, Trend reports citing the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that earlier these countries had already talked about cooperation in the energy sector.

"The energy issue was also highlighted during the negotiations of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Peter Siyjarto, which took place on May 20, 2019 in Ashgabat," the ministry added.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects of the EU and envisages at the first stage the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.  In February 2019, at a meeting of the SGC Advisory Council, the European Union and Azerbaijan invited Turkmenistan to join this project.

The EU is showing great interest in the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which will become part of the Southern Gas Corridor system.  The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project provides for the supply of Turkmen gas to the European market in large volumes for at least 30 years.

Turkmenistan has every opportunity to implement large energy projects both in this direction and in other directions.  For this, the necessary infrastructure has been created on the territory of our country, including the internal East-West gas pipeline, which provides for the transfer of gas from the eastern region of Turkmenistan to the western one.

It is important that in terms of natural gas reserves our country is one of the three world leaders, which provides guaranteed opportunities for long-term supplies of "blue fuel" in a number of directions, including to European markets.
