From March 2023, Turkey plans to start using its own natural gas. This was stated by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Fatih Donmez, Trend reports.

The minister noted that a 140-kilometer section of the pipeline is already ready, which will transport gas from a field in the Black Sea to the town of Filyos in the city of Zonguldak.

The discovery of large gas reserves by Turkey in the Black Sea became known in the summer of 2020. Initially, the Turkish authorities announced 320 billion cubic meters of gas, in the fall, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced an increase in the volume of proven reserves of the new field to 405 billion cubic meters.

Erdogan specified that Ankara intends to start providing the population with the found gas by 2023. According to him, the open field is the largest in the country, and the development of a new field will ensure the energy security of the country and create new jobs.

Turkey plans to start operating the Sakarya field early next year and produce up to 40 million cubic meters. m of gas per day (this is about 14.6 billion cubic meters per year), Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez told Kriter magazine earlier.

It is noteworthy that last year Turkey purchased about 27 billion cubic meters of gas from the Russian Gazprom.
