During the working visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan to participate in the Summit of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement to Combat COVID-19, the head of Turkmenistan met with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Welcoming and thanking the distinguished guest for accepting the invitation to take part in this important international forum, the head of Azerbaijan noted that he remembers his visits to Turkmenistan with special warmth, during which he took part in significant high-level meetings.

The participants of the meeting named trade and economic relations developing along a vertical line among the most important areas of bilateral partnership.

Pointing out the transport, logistics and energy sectors among the key vectors of interstate cooperation, the interlocutors stressed that the strategically significant geographical position of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan between Asia and Europe allows for close partnership in this area, including the implementation of large-scale international projects in these areas.

Azerbaijan always pays special attention to the development of relations with Turkmenistan, Ilham Aliyev said.  He welcomed the political dialogue between the two countries, adding that cultural and humanitarian ties are also actively developing.

It was noted that there are wide opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in the fields of energy, cotton growing, transport and investment.

As Ilham Aliyev emphasized, Azerbaijan is increasing its transport and transit capabilities, which will open up additional opportunities for the transportation of Turkmen goods through the country in the future.
