President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a resolution on the establishment of an intersectoral commission to reduce methane emissions.  This decision was made by the head of state during a government meeting held on Friday.

As noted in the resolution, the creation of an intersectoral commission is aimed at strengthening control over the effectiveness of work to systematically reduce the volume of greenhouse gases, and mainly methane emissions, arising in various sectors of the economy.

The same resolution approved the composition of the intersectoral commission and its regulations.

It is worth noting that in November 2021, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the UN COP26 summit in the Scottish city of Glasgow, said that Turkmenistan at the national level pays special attention to reducing methane emissions, and in this regard welcomes the Global Methane Commitment initiative.

At the same time, it was noted that Turkmenistan plans to achieve zero growth in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and in the long term, to significantly reduce emissions annually, both at the expense of its own financial resources and with the technical and financial support of international organizations.
