Last Saturday, a nationwide tree planting campaign started across the country.  The spring campaign, which has become a tradition, is designed to ensure environmental well-being throughout the country.  In this regard, in all velayats, as well as in the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag, the planting campaign was held at a high organizational level.

This large-scale event, organized annually at the state level, was attended by thousands of workers from all divisions of the country’s oil and gas complex, which is a fundamental sector of the national economy.  The special solemnity and unique flavor of the national campaign was enhanced by its holding on March 16, on the eve of the National Spring Holiday - International Day of Novruz.

Early in the morning of March 16, workers and specialists of organizations and enterprises, structural divisions of the State Concerns “Turkmengas”, “Turkmennebit”, and the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” gathered on the territory of the horticultural forestry zone of the oil and gas complex, located in the west of the city of Ashgabat.

The main goal of landscaping activities is to increase the number and improve the quality of forest areas, as well as to provide proper care for planted tree seedlings.  Here, at the foot of the Kopetdag Mountains, breathing in clean, oxygen-rich air, representatives of the oil and gas industry could combine business with pleasure - replenish the rows of seedlings, carry out a number of agricultural activities, such as weeding, watering, and also enjoy the beautiful view of the picturesque nature awakening in early spring.

National tree planting in our country is carried out twice a year – in spring and autumn as part of the National Forestry Program for 2021-2025.  The massive event is aimed at improving the air quality of our cities in all regions of Ashgabat by expanding the coverage of forest belts.  Annually planted green areas with pines, cypresses, junipers, junipers and other types of trees give cities and other populated areas of the country a special look.  All together, this creates the “green lungs” of the country, saturating the air with oxygen and phytoncides, protecting settlements from sandstorms and improving the environmental situation in cities.

In addition to planting trees to decorate cities, our country is working to restore the population of plants growing in the mountains and deserts – juniper, juniper, saxaul.  This is an effective initiative to prevent environmental complications and an accessible noble cause that allows people to create in harmony with natural conditions.  This in itself has a positive effect.  In 2024, it is planned to plant 1.5 million seedlings of deciduous, coniferous, fruit trees and grapes in the Turkmen capital and the city of Arkadag, as well as 1.5 million seedlings in other regions of the country.

The number of seedlings that will be planted this year, held under the motto “The Fount of the Mind of Magtymguly Fragi,” indicates that improving the quality of people’s living conditions and improving the ecological climate in Turkmenistan is considered one of the priority areas of state policy.
