Ricard Vanby, the Director of the Turkmenistan branch of "Haldor Topsoe" and Vadim Shiriev, the Licensing Director of "Haldor Topsoe" in Denmark with a focus on Turkmenistan, shared his impressions of the organization of the International Forum for Attracting Foreign Investments in the Energy Sector of Turkmenistan (TEIF 2024) and the work of their company in the country.
- Tell us about your company's involvement in the development of Turkmenistan's energy sector.
- Turkmenistan is one of our favorite partners. We are implementing two major projects in the country: a gas-to-gasoline plant using our company's technologies and the Karabogaz plant.
To date, Turkmenistan is the first and only country in the world with a plant that produces synthetic fuel from natural gas based on the TIGAS technology developed by the Danish company "Haldor Topsoe".
Turkmenistan currently serves as a role model that other countries look up to. However, many conditions are needed to establish such production, including vast gas resources and a demand for gasoline. These factors all aligned in Turkmenistan.
- How do you evaluate your cooperation with Turkmenistan?
- In a word, we have an excellent relationship. There are specific nuances to working in the country, but we are treated very friendly, and it is comfortable for the company to operate in Turkmenistan.
- How often do you participate in such large-scale forums?
- The company regularly participates in forums organized and held by Turkmenistan in the energy sector. Last year, representatives of "Haldor Topsoe" attended a similar forum in Dubai.
- How do you evaluate the organization of the Paris forum?
- Excellent organization, with no complaints. It is interesting to see other participants, competitors, and their proposals, presentations, and achievements, and compare them with ours. It's a good platform for productive work.
Being an engineer, I focus more on technical matters rather than financial ones, but it’s still interesting to listen.
- Your company has been a long-term partner of our country. What advice would you give to other companies aiming to enter the Turkmen energy market and establish long-term relationships with Turkmenistan?
- This is a complex question. I believe it makes sense to consider joint ventures working under production-sharing agreements. For instance, large companies like "Petronas," "Dragon Oil," and "Mitro" operate in this manner.
I think it's essential to attract companies to the country so they can learn about it from the inside, about its potential, and how to live and work here. This is not well known in other countries, including Europe.
- Thank you, and we wish you further success in developing fruitful cooperation with our country.
