The state and prospects of cooperation with the European Union were discussed at the meeting with the EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso, held last Friday in the leadership of foreign affairs of our country.
As noted on the website of the foreign ministry, the main focus was stated at the negotiations on the process of modernizing the Energy Charter Treaty (EC). As a party to the Treaty, Turkmenistan actively participated in the negotiation process on its modernization in a close country with partner countries. The very decision to start discussing the modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty (EH) was made at the Ashgabat EH conference in November 2017.
Among the key proposals for modernizing the EH Treaty were the investment component and sustainable development and legal issues. The current meeting also cleared the parties' interest in harmonizing the Energy Charter Treaty with the goals laid down in the Paris Agreement on climate change.

“The theme of the International Conference held in Ashgabat is rather topical, as evidenced by the composition of its participants, including representatives of government agencies, large international organizations, banks, big gas companies, scientists, leading specialists and experts in the oil and gas sphere.
