Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan discuss relevant aspects of partnership

On July 13, a three-way online meeting was held between the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammedyarov and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Khanif Atmar.

During the talks, an exchange of views and proposals on the implementation of the agreements reached during the tripartite video conference of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, held in early July. One of the main topics of that meeting was improving cooperation within the framework of the international transport and transit corridor along the route Afghanistan – Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Turkey (Lapis Lazuli). Noting the advantages of the geographical location of the three countries at the crossroads of important trunk routes, R. Meredov emphasized the importance of strengthening trilateral cooperation, which contributes to the successful implementation of transport potential to expand ties between regions. According to the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan, the creation of a single logistics center, the introduction of advanced technologies in the cargo transportation system, the simplification of customs and tariff regulation and the use of trilateral negotiation mechanisms will contribute to the development of the entire region, strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the states of Central and South Asia and Europe. continue cooperation in this area through video consultations between representatives of the ministries and departments of the three countries. The parties also considered topical issues of the regional and international agenda, including the consolidated fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
