During a government meeting held by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov last Friday, Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Shakhym Abdrakhmanov reported on seismic exploration work carried out by the State Corporation «Turkmengeology» in order to search for new oil deposits.

As reported, at present, the extraction of "black gold" is mainly carried out at the deposits of the Balkan zone of western Turkmenistan.  Turkmengeology plans to conduct additional seismic studies in this oil and gas region, including in the eastern part of the Goturdepe field using the 3D method, as well as at the South Burun site using the 2D method.

To carry out these works, an international tender was held, as a result of which the winner was selected.

Summarizing the report, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the need to further increase the production and processing of oil and natural gas, the production of various petrochemical products in demand within the country and on world markets, as well as expanding its range.  In this context, an important task is to systematically strengthen the resource base of the oil and gas industry by identifying new promising fields and structures.

Noting the need to intensify geological exploration, geophysical research in all regions of the country, including the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea, the head of state addressed a number of specific instructions to the Vice-Chairman.  At the same time, it was especially emphasized that these studies should be carried out using digital technologies, modern equipment and software.
