Prospects of Turkmen-Uzbek partnership in transport, fuel and energy complex and other spheres discussed in Ashgabat

The possibilities for building up partnerships in transport, fuel and energy and other spheres were discussed with the delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, who arrived in Ashgabat on Monday on a working visit. During the visit, Sardor Umurzakov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the government of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. At the meeting the state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation were discussed. The possibilities of building up partnerships in transport, fuel and energy and other areas of mutual interest were also considered.
It was noted that Uzbekistan was one of the main trade partners of Turkmenistan.
Having emphasized the importance of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, the parties spoke in favor of organizing a meeting of the co-chairs of this commission within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, which was scheduled for the coming days in Turkmenistan.
Having confirmed their interest in further strengthening the Turkmen-Uzbek relations, the parties noted the need to organize regular meetings between representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the two countries. The importance of expanding contacts between the business circles of the two countries was also noted.
At the meeting of Sardor Umurzakov with Vice-Chairman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, the need for further development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations in a wide range was emphasized, the importance of the upcoming Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was noted, the legal framework of cooperation was analyzed.
Opportunities for enhancing transport and transit communication between the two countries, strengthening energy and industrial cooperation, including the petrochemical industry, were discussed. In this context, the importance of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the «Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan» Business Council, was emphasized.
S. Umurzakov also held meetings with Vice-Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Ch. Gylydzhov and E. Orazgeldyev, at which issues of expanding cooperation in the field of trade, textile industry and agriculture were discussed.
