Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has tripled over the past few years, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic Sardor Umurzakov said at the Turkmen-Uzbek Economic Forum on Monday, Sputnik Uzbekistan news agency reported.
It was also noted that for eight months of this year, trade between neighboring states increased by 25% and amounted to USD 418.1 million.
During the meeting, Umurzakov said that this year Uzbekistan became the beneficiary of the EU's GSP+ system of preferences, which allows importing more than 6 thousand different types of goods to Europe duty-free. As he mentioned, entrepreneurs of the two countries can jointly use this opportunity to jointly develop industry and exports.
According to statistics, in 2020 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 527 million USD.
Within the framework of the Ashgabat agreement, both countries participate in the creation of sub-regional transport corridors Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-India and China-Central Asia-Caspian-South Caucasus-Europe, which allows direct access to foreign markets.
