The main directions of interaction and priority joint projects for the near future were discussed at the 16th meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian commission on economic cooperation, held in Tehran on October 26-27, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.
The meeting was attended by the commission's co-chairs – Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Ghasemi, as well as heads and representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries.
The ministers expressed the need to further improve the contractual framework for interaction, consisting of a package of documents regulating cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian and other promising areas.
Meredov and Ghasemi, stressing the positive dynamics of the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, stated that Iran remains one of the significant partners of Turkmenistan in the region. In this regard, new plans have been outlined for the further intensification of mutual actions in this direction.
The importance of developing bilateral ties in the field of transport, transit and fuel and energy partnerships, with access to new formats of interaction, was emphasized.
An exchange of views took place on the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meeting of the commission. In this regard, the possibilities of enhancing contacts in the area of trade and economic interaction, customs and border regulation, industry, agriculture and a number of other areas of bilateral partnership were considered.
Particular attention was paid to expanding bilateral interaction between the regions of the two countries, enhancing contacts in the field of education and culture, environmental protection, and the medical industry. The ministers agreed to hold a number of previously postponed cultural events, including cross-cultural days and exchange of visits by creative groups.
Following the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, a protocol was signed.
