Key aspects of the Turkmen-Indian interstate relations were discussed on Thursday by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the new Indian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Vidhu Pithambaran Naira, who presented his credentials to the head of state.

The diplomat conveyed to the Turkmen leader the words of greetings from the President of India Ram Nath Kovinda and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who confirmed their readiness to intensify the constructive Turkmen-Indian dialogue.

India has been and remains an important partner of our country. We sincerely value the Turkmen-Indian relations and attach great importance to their further development, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

A separate topic of the meeting was the discussion of the possibilities of increasing the pace of implementation of the project for the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline, which, as the Turkmen leader emphasized, is aimed at reviving the Great Silk Road in a new format and improving the well-being of the peoples of Southeast Asia.

Confirming India's high interest in speeding up the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, the ambassador expressed confidence that the implementation of this project would contribute to the development of economic cooperation in the regional and international dimensions.

The interlocutors stressed the importance of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Among the priority areas of partnership were the energy sector and the transport and logistics complex. The development of cooperation in the IT sphere was also called promising, where Indian companies have gained a lot of experience.
