Turkmenistan, recognized as one of the leading countries in terms of iodine resources, is the first country in the region and the fourth in the world to provide its population with iodized table salt. The raw material required for iodization of this product is also a domestic product.  Currently, there are three enterprises for the production of iodine in the Balkan velayat, these are the Balkanabat and Bereket iodine plants of the Türkmenhimiýa State Concern and the iodine production plant of the Himiýa Senagat Economic Society, which is a member of the Union of Industrialists
