Energy is one of the promising areas of cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). This was stated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the 15th meeting of the Council of Elders of the UTC, held in Ashgabat on March 12.
“Close and effective cooperation between the Turkic states is an important condition for their economic growth, prosperity and competitiveness. When establishing our relations based on the requirements of today, it is important to rely on a common foundation for development,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
“Realizing this, Turkmenistan is guided by the need to make cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States consistent and long-term, and to pay special attention to promising areas. Energy is one of these areas,” the head of the People’s Council noted.
According to him, “Turkmenistan considers it necessary to create an effective, reliable, self-sufficient model of cooperation in the generally unstable conditions of global energy markets. This will meet the growing energy needs of our countries”.
“Turkmenistan, one of the largest producers of energy resources, is ready to supply them to fraternal countries and increase their volumes. Currently, our country supplies electricity to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. There are also plans to implement large projects with the participation of these countries to send Turkmen natural gas to the east,” Arkadag said.
“We also have good opportunities to export Turkmen natural gas and electricity to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey. We are ready to continue to provide assistance to fraternal countries in ensuring energy security. In the future, it will be possible to create a permanently operating integrated energy transmission system. In this case, the Turkic states will be able to fully take advantage of the advantages of geographical proximity, resource potential and means of supply,” the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized.
