A regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government is held in Ashgabat

On May 24, a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in the capital of Turkmenistan. 

Representative delegations of the CIS member countries arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the meeting. On behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers H. Geldimyradov.

The venue for the meeting was the Garagum Hotel in the capital city. This modern complex provides all conditions for both receiving foreign guests and organizing major international events. 

On behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan conveyed greetings and wishes for successful work to the meeting participants. At the same time, the focus of Turkmenistan on enhancing interstate cooperation, having a diverse potential and meets the interests of common wellbeing, was emphasized. 

During the meeting, the heads of government exchanged views on current issues of trade and economic interaction, including expanding cooperation in the field of energy, transport infrastructure, industry and other areas of mutual interest. It was noted that trade turnover in the CIS had increased by more than two-thirds over the past four years. 

As a result of the meeting, a package of eleven documents, aimed at the further development and strengthening of integration ties in various fields, was adopted. 

Among other things, it was decided to declare Ashgabat the City of New Sports Opportunities of the Commonwealth. The Council for Physical Culture and Sports was instructed to develop a corresponding draft Action Plan for 2024–2025.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in the Russian city of Sochi on November 7-8, 2024.
