Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Energy, Transport, and Other Areas

Ashgabat, October 10 – Talks were held between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit, TDH reports.

Among the important topics discussed during the talks, held in an expanded format with the participation of members of the official delegations of the two countries, which took place at the Oguz Khan Presidential Palace Complex, was a discussion of the possibilities for further developing cooperation in the energy and transport sectors.

As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Turkmenistan is counting on the continuation and expansion of cooperation in the energy sector. In the overall asset, there is already a large implemented energy project – the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed our country's readiness to consider together with Kazakh partners the possibilities for a significant increase in energy supplies and expanding their transit configuration.

Transport and logistics are also a strategic area of partnership, which is due to the extensive capabilities of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in forming transport and transit corridors along the East-West and North-South lines. Here, our country fully shares the initiatives on the need to lay transcontinental highways across the territory of Central Asia, Serdar Berdimuhamedov continued.

The head of Turkmenistan highly appreciated the level of cooperation achieved in various sectors, the experience gained at the government and departmental levels. In general, partnership in this direction is developing consistently, with a tendency towards qualitative growth, the President of Turkmenistan said.

Among other areas where both countries can actively cooperate, the head of Turkmenistan singled out the agro-industrial complex, the chemical industry, engineering, textile production, and a number of other industries.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov also expressed confidence that the creation of Turkmen-Kazakh border trade zones would be an important step in the process of further activating bilateral trade and economic partnership, including by increasing mutual supplies of agricultural and household appliances, food products, building materials, and petrochemical products.

Emphasizing that today's meeting confirmed the determination of the two states to continue doing everything necessary to expand interaction, as evidenced by the solid package of documents prepared for signing, Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and all members of the Kazakh delegation for their constructive approach, readiness for a заинтересованному and substantive discussion of strategic partnership issues.

Among the documents signed following the talks are: an Agreement on the development of cooperation in the gas industry between the State Concern "Türkmengaz" and the Joint Stock Company "National Company "QazaqGaz"; a Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Concern "Turkmennebit" and JSC "National Company "KazMunayGas"; an Agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of transport, logistics, and transit between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan; a Comprehensive Program for strengthening friendship and deepening multifaceted strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2025-2027; an Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on mutual encouragement and protection of investments.
