On December 25, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov discussed economic and cultural cooperation between St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan during a brief conversation.

The meeting took place at Pulkovo Airport as part of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to St. Petersburg to participate in an informal meeting of the leaders of the CIS member states.

“St. Petersburg cooperates with Turkmenistan in a variety of areas, our relations are developing dynamically. I would like to especially thank our Turkmen partners for their careful attitude to the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the siege of Leningrad, for their care for veterans. These values unite us. In Ashgabat, it is planned to install a monument “Friendship” as a sign of gratitude to the Turkmen people who accepted the residents of besieged Leningrad,” Alexander Beglov claimed.

As noted, the interaction between St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan in the economic sphere continues to deepen.  St. Petersburg companies are taking part in the construction of road and engineering infrastructure facilities in Turkmenistan. Among the completed projects is a complex of mudflow diversion structures in the south of Ashgabat, built by the Vozrozhdenie company. In total, over the years of its work, the company has built 25 large structures in Turkmenistan, including highways, bridges, and interchanges.

The «Silovye mashiny» company successfully cooperates with Turkmenenergo.

Cooperation in the field of culture and education is also strengthening. Last academic year, almost two thousand students from Turkmenistan studied at St. Petersburg universities.
