Turkmenistan is ready to work closely with European partners on the issue of natural gas supplies, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with Euronews.
"There is enormous potential in the energy sector, mutual interest in which is only growing today. The reason for this is that the European energy market is one of the largest in the world. In modern conditions, this requires uninterrupted and large-scale supplies of energy raw materials for the stable development of the European economy," Hero-Arkadag claimed.
"Turkmenistan is ready to work closely with European partners on the issue of natural gas supplies. One of the ways for targeted actions is the implementation of the Trans-Caspian route," the head of the People's Council noted.
"We have always advocated for the establishment of a full-fledged energy partnership in the Caspian Sea, including the construction of underwater pipelines in the western direction. This is our legal right, enshrined in the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added.
"We proceed from the fact that the creation of underwater infrastructure in the Caspian Sea meets the economic requirements of the coastal states, which in turn implies equal consideration of the interests of producers, consumers and transit countries of energy resources. As a result, all this will become a key factor in maintaining energy security and sustainability in the Eurasian space. Along with this, legal issues related to the demarcation of the Caspian Sea floor should also be resolved. Now we do not see any obstacles here: everything depends on the goodwill and readiness of all participants in this process. Turkmenistan has such will," Hero-Arkadag said.
"Our country ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves. In terms of gas reserves, the Galkynysh field ranks first in the world. Its reserves amount to 27.4 trillion cubic meters," the head of the Halk Maslahaty mentioned.
"These figures show that the export potential of our country allows us to meet the energy needs of not only our own, but also our partners in the region and beyond. This is confirmed by the main gas pipelines built and now successfully operating in the eastern, southern and northern directions. Such projects can only be initiated by a state that has the necessary volumes of energy resources," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
Hero-Arkadag noted that Turkmenistan also proposes to launch joint projects in the field of "green" energy and supply electricity to Europe.
"Turkmenistan is ready to export electricity. Currently, a power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts is being built on the Caspian coast belonging to our country. I am confident that with the consolidated efforts of the states through whose territories the power lines will pass, this project will be implemented in the near future and on the basis of mutual benefit,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
“We are also ready to work with European partners in the field of hydrogen energy and the use of regenerative energy sources,” added Hero-Arkadag.
