Today, May 13, the 7th Central Asian Conference on Climate Change has opened in the capital's Yildiz Hotel, the Turkmenportal online media reports.The forum opened with a video clip "Turkmenistan: Climate Change and Green Transition".
The welcoming speech was given by the Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Charygeldi Babaniyazov, the World Bank's Global Director for Climate Change Valerie Hickey, the Director of the GIZ Regional Program Sergey Makarov, the Ambassador of the European Union to Turkmenistan Beata Peksa, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Narine Saakyan.
The opening plenary session is devoted to regional and national climate policies, achievements and plans for the future.The conference includes an exhibition "Introduction to the Unique Endemic Flora and Fauna of Turkmenistan".On the eve of the regional forum, a number of events on this topic were held. In particular, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat hosted a seminar on “Strengthening the Role of Youth and Women in Responding to Climate Risks in Turkmenistan and Central Asia”.
The Yildiz Hotel hosted a training session on “Climate Change: Diversity of Content and Target Audiences” and the 60th meeting of the CAREC Board of Governors. On the same day, a Regional Seminar on Developing Climate and Economic Scenarios for Central Asia was held.The conference on climate change will continue until May 14. Then, a trip to the International Ahal-Teke Equestrian Complex in Ashgabat will be organized for the forum participants.The events are being organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia.
