The state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Mongolia laid a solid foundation for long-term cooperation

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made his first state visit as head of state to Mongolia on June 1-2, 2025. On June 2, talks were held in Ulaanbaatar between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, the results of which confirmed a firm commitment to building long-term friendly and mutually beneficial relations.

As reported by TDH, during the talks, held both in a narrow format and in an expanded format, issues of expanding and developing friendly relations, mutually beneficial cooperation, and deepening interaction in the international arena were discussed.

Following the talks, 14 documents were signed aimed at strengthening the legal foundations of relations between the two countries, as well as expanding ties in the areas of trade, economics, investment, light industry, healthcare, education, science and others.

The heads of state adopted a joint statement emphasizing the importance of deepening cooperation in trade and economics, transport and logistics, agriculture and environmental protection.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, announcing the results of the completed high-level talks, emphasized that they were held in a friendly, trusting working atmosphere. All major areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed, and views were exchanged on current issues of international politics.

As noted, Turkmenistan and Mongolia will promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, cooperate on environmental and food agendas, energy security issues, and transport connectivity.

“I expressed gratitude to Mr. President for Mongolia’s support for Turkmenistan’s neutrality, our international initiatives aimed at ensuring universal security and cooperation, and promoting a trusting dialogue in interstate relations,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

Trade and economic partnership was given priority during the talks. At the same time, the prospects of combining the efforts of the two countries in achieving transport connectivity, joint work in creating transcontinental transport corridors from Asia to Europe were noted.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan's initiative "Revival of the Great Silk Road", noting the presence of prerequisites for establishing partnership in the fields of energy and communications.

As emphasized, following the talks, a solid package of bilateral documents was signed.

As part of the visit, Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan. The head of Turkmenistan paid special attention to inter-parliamentary cooperation as a key area of ​​​​partnership. Parliamentary Friendship Groups have been established in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the State Great Khural of Mongolia to support political and diplomatic ties through parliamentary diplomacy. A business forum was also held, during which business circles of the two countries established direct contacts, laying the foundation for long-term cooperation in sectors such as food, agriculture, textile industry and other areas.
