Representatives of the countries of Central Asia and the EU considered the possibilities for the economic recovery of Afghanistan

 The next meeting on Afghanistan of special representatives and special envoys of the countries of Central Asia and the EU was held on May 31 in Almaty, during which international and regional efforts for a peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis were discussed, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

 In particular, the issues of Afghanistan's active involvement in regional integration processes, the economic recovery of the country and the implementation of various infrastructure projects on its territory were considered.

 In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V. Khadzhiev highlighted the main aspects of Turkmenistan's policy towards Afghanistan, including the ongoing TAPI project and constructive dialogue with the current authorities of Afghanistan.

 An agreement was reached to continue holding a dialogue of this format on a regular basis.  As a result of the event, a joint statement was adopted.

 As part of the event, V. Khadzhiev also met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan, Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons.  At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, as well as on international and bilateral efforts to assist the neighboring country.
