Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Executive Director of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, spoke about the implementation of the transnational gas pipeline project Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) on Thursday at the International Conference OGT-2022.

As emphasized during the presentation of this project, the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline is, first of all, energy security in the region and the countries participating in the project, it is the provision of reliable and cheap natural gas to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

First of all, we are talking about affordability – the program will help reduce energy poverty through public energy and will provide Pakistan with 50% of the energy that will be needed in the country by 2030, and India with 56% of the energy needed after 2024, -  during the presentation Muhammetmyrat Amanov said.

The TAPI Executive Director noted that the gas pipeline infrastructure will be safe and reliable with the use of modern technologies and compliance with the law and international standards.  This is the guarantee of delivery of the «product» to the end user.  In addition, TAPI will set an example of reducing carbon emissions, as well as contribute to global energy security by reducing CO2 emissions and help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

This project will be implemented in 2 stages.  At the first stage, gas will be supplied in free flow from the Turkmen gas field «Galkynysh» to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.  At the second stage, six compressor stations will be built to complete a full-scale gas supply project through a 1,853 km pipeline.

Up to 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year will be transported along the main line, which will make it possible to monetize the gas reserves of Turkmenistan and provide Afghanistan and Pakistan with additional income through transit fees, M. Amanov noted.
