The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Ebrahim Raisi discussed topical issues of interstate cooperation on Tuesday by telephone, TDH reports.

Trade and economic partnership was named among the key priorities of Turkmen-Iranian relations.  In this regard, it was noted that Turkmen-Iranian trade and economic relations are actively carried out in three main directions, where one of the main ones is the gas sector of cooperation.  The issue of supplying Turkmen natural gas to Iran and through it to third countries through the SWAP system is highlighted here.

The electricity sector was also identified among the priorities of the Turkmen-Iranian partnership.

The transport sector plays a major role in enhancing interstate cooperation.  It was noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to expanding cooperation with Iran in this area and increasing the volume of cargo transportation in particular.  In this regard, it was noted that positive experience of joint work in the field of road construction has been accumulated.

In this regard, the special importance of the Intergovernmental Joint Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the regular, 17th meeting of which was held on November 17–18 in Ashgabat, was emphasized.  A specialized exhibition of Iran and a Turkmen-Iranian business forum were also organized within its framework.

During the conversation, the heads of the two states stated that a constructive Turkmen-Iranian dialogue is successfully developing today both in a bilateral and multilateral format, within the framework of international organizations.

Recently, there has been active dynamics of interaction between the two countries in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.  This is directly facilitated by the visits carried out by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan to the neighboring country.

– Both sides are making great efforts to practically implement the agreements reached during these visits.  And today we see concrete results in a number of areas of interaction,” - the head of Turkmenistan noted.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the consistent build-up and strengthening of multi-vector relations with Iran, which are based on long-standing traditions of mutual respect and good neighborliness, dating back thousands of years.

The President of Iran asked to convey warm words of greeting to the Chairman of the Khalk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, who made a huge personal contribution to the strengthening and comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation in mutual interests.

The President of Turkmenistan noted the presence of great prospects for further strengthening bilateral ties in the field of science, education, culture, art and sports.

Attention is focused on important joint events that will be organized in the coming 2024 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the outstanding Turkmen poet and philosopher of the East Magtymguly Fragi, deeply revered throughout the world.

It is noted that the telephone conversation took place at the initiative of the Iranian side.
