CIS observers did not record violations in the conduct of the presidential campaign in Turkmenistan

 CIS observers did not record violations that could have influenced the results of the March 12 presidential elections in Turkmenistan.  This was stated by the head of the CIS Mission, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Leonid Anfimov, the Orient news agency reports.

 Head L. Anfimov said this at a briefing held by the Mission of Observers from the CIS on Sunday in Ashgabat following the results of monitoring the presidential elections in Turkmenistan.

 In particular, L. Anfimov noted that the elections of the President of Turkmenistan were held in accordance with the electoral legislation in force in the country, were held at a high organizational level, were free, open and competitive, and corresponded to the generally recognized principles of holding democratic elections.

 Members of the Mission were present during the counting of votes and note that this procedure was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation in force in the country.  The CIS observers did not record any violations that could have influenced the election results”, L.Anfimov said.
