At the meeting of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, issues of exporting Turkmen natural gas to the Turkish market under the swap scheme (exchange transactions) were discussed.

During the meeting between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Recep Erdogan, held on March 1 in Antalya, issues related to the export of Turkmen electricity to Turkey and the supply of Turkmen natural gas to a friendly country under the swap scheme were discussed, TDH notes.

Speaking about economic cooperation, the head of the People's Council of Turkmenistan emphasized that positive dynamics are demonstrated by bilateral trade turnover, which now amounts to more than 2.5 billion US dollars.  At the same time, the existing solid potential creates opportunities to increase this figure to 5 billion US dollars per year.

It is worth noting that Turkmenistan currently uses a swap scheme to supply natural gas through Iran to Azerbaijan.  According to the same scheme, it is planned to organize the export of “blue fuel” to Iraq, with which the relevant documents were previously signed.
