The US government through the Agency for International Development (USAID) on Thursday launched a new five-year regional energy program «USAID Energy in Central Asia», INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN reported citing the US Embassy in Kazakhstan.

The program budget is $39 million USD.

«The program will assist the five Central Asian countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – to achieve priority national energy goals, obtain economic benefits from cross-border energy trade, and increase energy security through greater regional integration», - the statement said.

Through the new program, USAID will provide technical support to governments in the region, businesses, and other stakeholders, including international development agencies and organizations, system operators, local and international investors, and energy companies.

As part of the project, USAID will work closely with local and regional partners «to build the capacity of local professionals, as well as to support the development of market relations,» the statement said.
