The ninth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan on July 8. The meeting was attended by the Chairman and members of the Commission from Turkmenistan, as well as a visiting delegation led by Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, TDH reports.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the oil, gas, and electricity sectors during the talks. It was emphasized that our countries possess vast hydrocarbon reserves, which offer broad prospects for coordinating activities in the global energy market and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects.

Currently, great importance is attached to promoting constructive partnership in these areas. The ongoing construction of a new 1,574-megawatt power plant in the Turkmenbashi etrap of the Balkan velayat creates the preconditions for discussing cooperation opportunities in the electric power sector.

The Commission meeting also discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, transit, digital development, and telecommunications.

As noted, Turkmenistan is undertaking extensive work to develop a multimodal transport system, specifically expanding maritime and river transport, and creating new hubs and corridors for air, rail, and road transport.

Cooperation in this area is aimed at ensuring regional and global development. Our countries serve as key transit hubs along international transport corridors. The modernized infrastructure of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the Baku International Sea Trade Port provides optimal routes for transit cargo shipments between Asia and Europe, contributing to the transformation of the Caspian region into a powerful logistics hub.

Opportunities for expanding cooperation in areas such as agriculture, food security, environmental protection, and urban development were also discussed.

Following the meeting, a corresponding Protocol was signed, outlining joint steps to enhance effective collaboration.
