Despite the difficulties that have arisen in the global economy due to the coronavirus pandemic, our country has managed to cope with all the tasks set. This was stated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, summarizing the results of the work done for the 1st quarter of 2021, which were discussed at the government meeting last Friday.

As the Head of state noted, in the first quarter, the economy of Turkmenistan continued to develop within the framework of the planned programs. The GDP growth rate has been stable at 5.9% since the beginning of the year, and wages have increased by 10%.

At present, the President noted, large-scale construction of large industrial and social facilities, including new settlements, residential buildings, medical and health centers, schools, kindergartens and some other new buildings, continues.

In accordance with the adopted programs, reforms are being carried out in the field of science and education, and work is being successfully carried out to modernize the production sector. A market economy is being formed. The development of oil and gas fields continues, the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan energy and communication systems, the TAPI transnational gas pipeline is underway, and other international projects are being prepared, the President continued.

The policy of support and development of private business is consistently implemented, entrepreneurs are widely involved in the implementation of economic reforms. The reform of the political system of our independent state continues.

This year, the President said, we must step up work on the implementation of the National Rural Program. The anniversary of our independent state should be remembered with new buildings in every city, in every village, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, instructing the vice prime Ministers responsible for the regions to submit relevant reports on the implementation of the above-mentioned program at each meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

It is necessary to continue the policy of introducing digital systems, creating enterprises for the production of import-substituting products, increasing the production of export-oriented products, attracting investment, and increasing foreign currency earnings.

The state administration system also needs to be reformed, the President said, demanding strict control over the execution of the State Budget, reducing unforeseen and administrative expenses. At the same time, it is necessary to make greater use of market mechanisms in the monetary and financial systems, and to diversify the economy.
