In the future, the volume of natural gas exported to China will reach 100 billion cubic meters.  This was stated by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking on Monday at a ceremony dedicated to the start of drilling new wells in the giant Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan.

Addressing General Director of the branch of the National Oil and Gas Corporation of China «International Ltd» («CNPC») Chen Huailong, who was entrusted with implementing the project, the Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to the employees of the corporation for their contribution to increasing the volume of Turkmen gas exported to China.

At present, China is supplied with 40 billion cubic meters of «blue fuel».  In accordance with the signed agreement, it is planned to supply 65 billion cubic meters of gas. The President noted that that would not be the limit.  In the future, the volume of natural gas exported to China would reach 100 billion cubic meters.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recalled that the resources of the Galkynysh field alone, according to experts, amountex to about 27 trillion cubic meters of gas, and in general, the country's gas resources were estimated at 50 trillion cubic meters of «blue fuel».

The President also noted that during the industrial development of Galkynysh, large infrastructure projects were built here, including three gas processing plants with a total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year.  Today, 45 wells operate on this promising area, each of which provides the volume of produced gas up to two million cubic meters per day.

According to the President, start of construction of three more wells of special complexity at Galkynysh became an important step for the further development of the country's gas industry and cooperation between Turkmenistan and China in the fuel and energy sector.
