Ashgabat and Islamabad intend to intensify the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline

On Monday, on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, talks between Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and President of Pakistan Arif Alvi were held in Islamabad, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Turkmen delegation conveyed greetings from the President of Turkmenistan.
R. Meredov noted that the dialogue between the two countries at the highest political level creates a solid foundation for strengthening and further expansion of bilateral relations.
The parties are making significant efforts to develop Turkmen-Pakistani economic cooperation, the strategic basis of which is partnership in the energy sector.
In this regard, a special emphasis was placed on the need to intensify joint actions on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.
R. Meredov also said that the negotiations between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of Pakistan, held in November this year in Ashgabat as part of the participation in the 15th Summit of the Heads of the Economic Cooperation Organization member states, gave impetus to the further development of mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
At the meeting, it was proposed to create a committee within the framework of the Joint Working Group for the early completion of the construction of the TAPI pipeline, the Associated Press of Pakistan said in a statement.
