BP to build first remote-controlled offshore platform in Azerbaijan

The world’s first BP offshore platform capable of remote control is being built in Azerbaijan, Gary Jones, BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said, PRIME reported.
On Tuesday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Gary Jones took part in a ceremony to symbolically send the upper modules of the Central East Azeri platform into the sea.
“The final investment decision on the Central East Azeri project is the first major investment decision of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli partners after the extension of the ACG production sharing agreement in 2017 until 2049,” Jones said.
According to him, the $6 billion project includes a new offshore platform and other facilities with a daily production capacity of up to 100,000 barrels of oil. It is predicted that up to 300 million barrels of oil will be produced during the operational period of the project as a whole.

Director of the Central East Azeri project, Neil Philips, informed Aliyev that, as part of the remote control principle, a main control room was designed to control all operations from the offshore platform, including the operation of gas wells, initial separation and transportation of produced crude oil and gas.
