The team of the Balkan region hydrogeological expedition of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” successfully completed 6,353 linear meters of wells in 2023, which is 1,123 meters more than planned obligations.

Balkan hydrogeologists conduct exploration, drilling and development of fresh and mineral, thermal and technical water sources.  Their main task is focused on finding drinking water to meet the needs of the population, as well as industry and agriculture.  To this end, they are restoring the operational qualities of wells located in the Caspian deserts, searching for new places for wells suitable for watering animals.

Specialists of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” equip expeditions, outline the contours and scale of actions for the future.  These activities are focused on the hilly plains and mountain landscapes of Western Kopetdag, including in the Gyzylarbat and Magtymguly etraps.

In particular, 12 kilometers southwest of the city of Gyzylarbat, water reserves have been successfully increased due to the Jahangir field.  According to the chemical composition and level of mineralization, the water turned out to be very suitable not only for irrigation of agricultural land, but also for drinking purposes.

In addition, drilling is currently underway 15 kilometers south of Gyzylarbat, directly in the mountain gorge at the Purnuar field.  Upon completion of this work, the reserves of the discovered underground lens will be used exclusively for drinking needs.

Work also continues at the Chendir field in the Magtymguly etrap, where hydrogeologists successfully overcome the rock mass at the mouth of the future well.

It is worth noting that at a recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the search and identification of drinking water deposits is an urgent task.  In this context, emphasis was placed on the importance of conducting relevant work on a scientific basis.  Noting the importance of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” carrying out effective activities, the head of state ordered, if necessary, to strengthen its material and technical base.
