A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, participated in the Fifth Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF-2026), held on April 17–18, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
On the sidelines of the forum, participants exchanged views on current issues of international cooperation, including sustainable development, regional security, and expanding economic ties.
In his speech, Meredov presented Turkmenistan's position on strengthening regional stability and developing cross-border infrastructure. In particular, efforts aimed at ensuring energy security, developing international trade corridors, and expanding Eurasian cooperation were emphasized.
The importance of the energy component of Turkmenistan's foreign economic strategy was noted during his speech. In this context, the country's efforts to diversify energy supply routes, including the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline project, and expanding electricity exports were discussed.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan's diversification principle is based on a balanced consideration of the interests of all participants in energy cooperation—producing countries, transit countries, and consumers.
Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan's initiatives within the UN to ensure energy security. At Turkmenistan's initiative, the UN General Assembly adopted three resolutions on energy sustainability. Turkmenistan is implementing these resolutions at the national level, including through the already operating Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, and is also providing neighboring transit countries with opportunities to export their energy to international energy markets.
The head of Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry also emphasized the further improvement of the transport and logistics sector. It was emphasized that Central Asia is an important transport hub on the East-West and North-South routes.
Particular attention was paid to the need to consolidate the efforts of countries in the region to ensure the effective functioning of the transport corridor connecting Asia and Europe.
The Future of Geothermal Energy
Turkmenistan has huge resources of natural gas, which provide a significant export potential. However, in the context of the global energy transition and the desire to diversify national energy balances, interest in green energy is growing. Geothermal energy occupies a special place among them. Geothermal energy is heat that is generated and accumulated in the bowels of the Earth.
