Scientists of Turkmenistan were the first to obtain hydrogen fuel by electrolysis of water.  This was stated by Hakberdy Khoshdurdyev, director of the Center for Hydrogen Energy at the International Oil and Gas University named after Yagshigeldi Kakaev, who spoke at the International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan (OGT-2023), which took place on October 25-27 in Ashgabat.

As Hakberdy Khoshdurdyev noted in his speech, in the laboratory of the Center for Hydrogen Energy, research work is underway to produce hydrogen fuel by electrolysis of water, and a methodological manual on the use of an experimental installation is being prepared.

According to the results of studies conducted at room temperature and normal atmospheric pressure, the electrolysis reaction gave positive results, emphasized the director of the Center for Hydrogen Energy.

It should be noted that the topic of creating hydrogen fuel as a source of environmentally friendly energy was given special importance at the conference.  As experts noted, the fuel of the future – hydrogen – is currently being promoted in solving the problem of climate change.  In industrial production, it can provide heat without generating greenhouse gases, since the heating value of hydrogen is 3 times higher than that of other fuels.  In addition, it can be used as an energy storage device.  The advantages of this modern energy carrier are clean fuel with zero gas emissions, fast refueling, safety, efficiency, and competitiveness.

It was also emphasized that thanks to innovations in energy technology infrastructure, hydrogen is beginning to “master” new markets.  This requires specialists capable of solving current problems in the energy sector.  In this regard, issues of training highly qualified personnel were discussed at the conference sessions, including building scientific potential, the role of research and development work in the development of the oil and gas industry.
